As a new mom, coming back to work was a struggle for me, I didn’t want to leave my son, Mason. As the summer flew by it dawned on me for the first time that as a teacher I took care of other people’s children. Don’t get me wrong, I was always a compassionate caring teacher but having experienced what it’s like to have a child I wanted to create a classroom that was everything I’d want for Mason and more. I wanted to be the guiding light in my students’ eyes and to love my job as much as I loved being home with Mason. My “new mom” insight inspired me to want to better my teaching practice and create an environment that I feel was ALWAYS engaging, fruitful and positive. Watching videos and sharing on Pinterest, B and I decided to revolutionize our teaching with Whole Brain. Watching the videos and reading “Whole Brain Teaching for Challenging Students” by Chris Biffle truly inspired me to create a whole brain classroom with my 7th grade students. I look forward to sharing and reflecting upon my WBT journey! K

"If it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you." This expression is applicable to so many parts of my work day. The challenges I faced in my past school year became the catalyst for the changes that I knew needed to happen during this school year. I spent the summer watching hours of WBT videos and reading “Whole Brain Teaching for Challenging Students” by Chris Biffle. With growing interest and 100% commitment to WBT values, I have implemented Whole Brain Teaching and incorporated their strategies into my daily lessons. WBT will keep both me and my students challenged and lead to positive changes for all of us. I'm working hard with my colleague, K, to help fine tune my practice and will use this space to reflect on my WBT experiences and welcome constructive feedback. B
